Change! Done? Now change again!

When talking with strangers about teaching, one thing I find myself saying all the time is, “Never a dull day!”

Well, nothing could be more true! As some of you know, I flipped my classes a few years back. It’s great; I love the fact that my instruction is available “on demand.” My students love it. Their parents love it. My administration loves it. So, I’m good, right?

WRONG!

I’m not bitter, but I just came across an article about how the best way to teach is to flip the flipped classroom. Read that last sentence again. Yes, now that I’ve flipped, studies show that I should flip it more! I’m actually laughing as I write this.

Now, to be fair, I’m actually pretty excited about this. It makes sense to me that students should engage in exploratory activities before they move into the direct instruction phase. It will certainly change my world, though!

Cheers to a new school year! What are you changing?

About

I have a unique perspective on teaching. As a young guy, I still have that “world is my oyster” perspective on life, so I am more than willing to try new things in the pursuit of happiness. I have always been a naturally happy person and don’t shy away from trying to make others see that it’s easy to be happy! Thus, the blog you’re reading. The main impetus for actually putting all the work in to getting this blog up and running? A coworker stopped me in the hall one day and actually reprimanded me for being so smiley all the time. They actually said that I shouldn’t be so happy as a teacher! My response? Screw that! I SHOULD be happy. I now smile at that coworker EVERY time I see them…and usually say something like, “Isn’t this such great day to be a teacher?!” They don’t usually smile back… Don’t be like them.
