Today I went to a training for a new student information system (gradebook, attendance, you name it) at school. I was very excited, because I’m a huge dork. But, quite a few of my
older impatient precious coworkers found learning the new system to be a bit frustrating.
It was a little like this:
Let’s just say there was a lot of very slow talking, a lot of repeating, and a lot of patience on the part of the presenters. They were saints.
Obviously, I recommend being as tech savvy as possible. Your students will love you, your students’ parents will love you, and your life will be easier. However, a drawback is that you will be expected to help your coworkers figure out all this new stuff. What I do to get through it: Always smile and just patiently walk them through it. Sort of a ‘grin and bear it’ situation.
As a side note, a bit of advice: NEVER sit next to your friend (or in my case, your work wife) at a training like this. No productivity is possible. Ever.
